Job Post: Executive Director
USA Powerlifting is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as the Executive Director. As the leading powerlifting organization in the United States, USA Powerlifting is dedicated to promoting and developing the sport of drug free powerlifting at all levels. The Executive Director will be responsible for leading the organization, managing its operations, and working closely with the Executive Committee to achieve USA Powerlifting’s mission, goals, and objectives.
Executive Director Job Description:
Statement of Purpose: USA Powerlifting shall have an Executive Director (“ED”), who shall be the staff leader and vested with the authority to make decisions on behalf of the Executive Committee.
Schedule: Full-time Salaried.
Salary Range: $80,000 – $105,000 Placement in the range is dependent upon experience.
Anticipated Hire Date: No later than December 01, 2023
Location: Anchorage, AK – Remote option available
Tenure: Executive Director shall be employed by the Executive Committee for the term deemed appropriate. The Executive Director may be removed by the Executive Committee at any time, with or without cause, but removal shall not affect the contract rights, if any, of the Executive Director. The ED has a contract of employment with USA Powerlifting which shall provide a summary of job duties, non-disclosure of fiduciary information, and pay and expectations. Conditions of employment shall be detailed, including rate of compensation, expectations of hours worked, duties, and causes for and conditions of termination. The Executive Director reports to the President as representative of the Executive Committee.
Responsibilities. The Executive Director shall:
- Be a non-voting member of the Executive Committee.
- Develop strategy for achieving USA Powerlifting’s mission, goals and objectives and present the strategy to the Executive Committee for approval.
- With the Treasurer of USA Powerlifting, and with the input of accountants, determine, within USA Powerlifting’s budget, the staff needed to effectively carry out USA Powerlifting’s mission, goals and objectives.
- Oversee the hiring and termination of all staff.
- Supervise consultants as retained.
- Directly or by delegation manage all staff functions.
- Responsible for resource generation and allocation of resources.
- Coordinate USA Powerlifting’s international activities.
- With the President, act as USA Powerlifting’s spokesperson; and
- Perform all functions as usually pertain to the office of Executive Director.

Education and Experience
- Familiarity with strength sports outside of the Olympic Model
- Experience managing sports programs
- Experience hosting large events.
- Background in business administration, entrepreneurship, and demonstrated track record in business innovation with an emphasis on sports
- Demonstrated experience managing with paid staff and volunteers
Specific Duties:
- Responsible for strategic planning and implementation of USA Powerlifting operations and programs.
- Track and report variables which affect organizational stability and finances, e.g. membership.
- Prepares accurate and timely analyses that capture and communicate membership results, funding variances, and overall performance trends.
- Provides leadership to and manages the efforts of national office staff to ensure appropriate support of each department.
- Supervises the development of operations-based financial modeling in support of the organizations accountant (CPA)
- Coordinates and leads annual budget reviews, monthly and quarterly reviews, and periodic forecast updates with the operational and executive committee.
- Approves major systems implementations related to cost, inventory control, and specifically, specialty competitions, such as nationals or pro series competition.
- Ensure intellectual property rights are adhered to and maintain trademark application currency.
- Retains a diverse, highly qualified staff and volunteers by facilitating personal and professional growth, and personal development for employees.
- Ensures that services and funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed strategic goals and objectives (sponsorship, membership fees, meet offerings and obligations).
- Dispute Resolution both internally and externally
- Program supervision includes, but is not limited to:
- Tracking therapeutic use exemptions directly or via delegation.
- Drug testing implementation and supervision of the Drug Testing Coordinator
- Liaison with the National Competition Consultant in planning, organizing, and executing National and other high-level competition.
- Monitors and tracks the sanction process either directly or through delegation.
- Preparation weekly summary of expenses and income for submission to the retained accountant.
- Ensure that those with authorization to endorse payment review and respond to payment requests to be completed via electronic banking.
- Anticipate technology needs with the Technical Coordinator, and facilitate those strategies and processes being implemented.
- Oversee referee certification process, and ensure either directly or through delegation, completion of SafeSport training, background checks.
- Liaison with contract investigator to complete investigation of code of conduct and SafeSport complaints.
- Liaison with Drug Testing Coordinator to deliver timely drug testing results, either through entry of negative tests in the database or through notification of positive results and provision and assistance in following procedures should an appeal be requested.
- Serve as bank account manager (without spending authority), PayPal, stripe and other platforms for transferring funds, accepting membership, and satisfying accounts receivable.
- Assist the contract National Meet Promoter establishing and monitoring contracts, such as sponsorship, vendor booths at competition, hotel and other expenses required for hosting high-level competition.
